New Elementary Campus
The primary objective of the 2024 bond is to replace Newgulf Elementary with a new modern facility. The project provides for the construction of a new school on the same site while students remain in Newgulf. The Board approved a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) on August 5, 2025. Drymalla Construction of Columbus, Texas is the general contractor. A groundbreaking on September 29, 2025, included staff and students and was a big success.
The foundation and structural steel erection are complete giving dimension to the new campus. Exterior sheathing and water proofing, in advance of masonry work, are ongoing as exterior wall framing is completed. On the inside, subcontractors are working diligently to get mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems roughed in. Windows and store front installation has begun.
The new water well is nearing completion. The domestic water storage tank and the fire storage tank have been assembled.
The project is under budget and on schedule. The new school is being constructed behind the current Newgulf Elementary building and will connect to the Early Childhood Building completed in 2021.
Other District Priorities
The primary objective for the bond is replacing Newgulf Elementary with a modern facility. However, as part of the comprehensive assessment of District facilities, Boling High School was also evaluated. While capital improvements were identified for the campus, it was determined that the facility still has some useable life. The District must also work within its debt limits. Accordingly, with the help of staff and community members, the Elementary Campus was prioritized for the first phase. Other recommendations included addressing challenges at Boling High School as funding is available. We will update the community as funding becomes available and options are considered.
